Our membership meeting this past week was a great experience. Although we had a change of venue to the Analog and a different time slot then when we normally hold our meetings, we still had a decent turnout.
The meeting was a little shorter than usual, but we managed to get quite a bit of information out there. Our Deputy Director, Scott Gordon, updated us on upcoming events. Some of upcoming events discussed include: the Grand Opening of Cannacea on October 1st where free giveaways of swag and samples will begin at 10am. Our Executive Director, Russ Belville, will be there as well! The Oregon Hemp Convention will be on October 11-12, and Hempstalk will take place the following weekend, October 17-18.
We also discussed the possibilities for Portland NORML to get involved in Marijuana Mondays at the Analog. Currently, the Analog hosts marijuana giveaways at 8pm and 10pm on a first come, first serve basis. Last week, the Analog hosted a job fair/trade show during the 8pm time slot. We will be discussing with the Analog what possibilities are available to us and we may need volunteers to help out with these events if it becomes something we participate in regularly.
Unfortunately, our Wheel of Swag was lost at an event earlier that day when it was left near the compactor while everything was being loaded. But we were still able to give away some great raffle prizes, including a very cool cannabis-themed dart board, a cannabis book, the Cannabis Manifesto, along with Portland NORML T-shirts.
Our Legal Counsel, John Lucy, wrapped up the meeting with a few legal questions from the audience. We want to thank the Analog for hosting us and I’m looking forward to holding a meeting at this location in our regularly scheduled time slot on the 4th Saturday of October - although we are still waiting for confirmation from the venue. We will keep our membership posted on the details for the October meeting in upcoming newsletters. Stay tuned!
