Portland NORML had our best meeting yet this past Saturday, with a large turnout and a number of new active, voting members signing up. As we continue to fight for equalization and work to inform consumers about their rights and responsibilities under our evolving laws surrounding marijuana, your support means a lot, so thank you to those who joined our efforts!
The meeting kicked off with our Executive Director Russ Belville sharing a Powerpoint presentation on where the proposed bills currently stand and what consumers and marijuana industry professionals can expect in the coming days with the July 1 effective date for legalization almost upon us.
Our legal counsel, John Lucy, also shared a few key points that are important to consumers, including the importance of not taking marijuana onto federal property which includes national parks. He also noted that it remains illegal to use marijuana in public parks including campgrounds.
Then our special guest, Dru West, shared his growing knowledge in a seminar on how to get your four plant garden going and how to maintain it once it was going, including the process of harvesting, trimming and storing the finished marijuana products. He had signed copies of his Second Edition book “Secrets of the West Coast Masters” for those interested.
We also had a chance to try out our new “Swag prize wheel” for our raffle giveaways, and we gave out quite a few Portland NORML T-shirts and many other prizes.
The meeting concluded with our first election for three board positions. Randy Quast, Russ Belville and Scott Gordon were all confirmed to continue in their positions on the Board of Directors for Portland NORML.
